About
Brian Patrick Barrett, of Rosslyn, Virginia and formerly Piscataway, NJ, died unexpectedly on December 26, 2020 at INOVA, Mount Vernon Hospital after a sudden illness. Although only 38 years old, Brian had an enormous impact on his family, friends and business associates. His presence will be sorely missed, until we see him again.
Brian was a true Christian and exemplified God‘s grace in his life by accepting Christ at an early age, walking with the Lord and allowing Him to lead and guide his actions. He had a personal relationship with God and was filled with the Holy Spirit. His successes in life and business can be attributed to his strong spiritual and family foundation. Growing up, Brian and Gerard exchanged hugs daily with their mom René. Their home life was based on a mutual love of God and family: praying together daily, setting goals, believing God for a positive outcome and sharing praise reports.
From an early childhood, Brian would demonstrate a fondness for learning and an intense appreciation for travel, games and sports. His grandmother Ella Harris was instrumental in cultivating his love for learning. He maintained a high level of academic excellence during high school, where he was elected Class President for four straight years.
During his formative years he spent many summers visiting and working with his Uncles Michael and Kelvin Harris in Washington, DC. That experience would plant the seeds which later inspired him to start his own business in the computer technology field.
In 2004 he graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Cognitive Science, concentrating in computer science. From there he would move on to accept a job with Northrop Grumman-TASC, working in the area of computer engineering and software development.
In 2007, Brian went to work full time for his own company, Ideogenics, securing contracts with numerous government agencies including the Centers for Disease Control, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Veterans Affairs, the Department of Defense and the intelligence community. He proved himself to be a diligent, honest and hardworking businessman.
Brian was a frequent world traveler, visiting many countries including Columbia, Costa Rica, England, Italy, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Singapore and France. He inspired his grandmother Ella to get her first passport and agree to take a family trip to Aruba in celebration of her 90th birthday.
Throughout his life Brian demonstrated a quiet resolve to move forward, while others were sitting idle, expressed his love and appreciation for family and demonstrated true compassion for any who crossed his path.
Brian is survived by his parents Noel Barrett of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and René Carey (Wardell) of Chester, VA. His brother and best friend Gerard Barrett of Los Angeles, CA. His grandmother Ella Mae Harris of Chester, VA. His uncles Michael Harris and Kelvin Harris of Temple Hills, MD, Silburn Barrett and Keith Barrett of Montreal, Canada, Monica McGhain of Nottingham, Millie Bennett of London, Carmen Campbell of Kingston, Jamaica and many cousins and friends.
